Mariners' Loot is a “no-selling” fundraiser. The PTO purchases gift cards at a discounted rate from a large list of stores and service providers. We then sell these cards to parents at their face value. The difference between the PTO purchase price and the face value goes to a specific grade level or activity fund each month. The teachers use the profits from Mariners' Loot to fund field trips, guest speakers, books, etc.
The benefit to the Mariners' Loot program is you can purchase "loot" gift cards for everyday purchases (groceries, clothes, gas, movies, restaurants), and make money for the school. No more buying things that you don't want or need as part of your child's fundraising efforts. Each month during the school year, there will be a Mariners' Loot form sent home with your child listing the grade level or group benefiting from that month's Loot sales. Simply complete the form and return it to the school. Gift cards will be sent home the following week. During the course of the year each grade will have the opportunity to earn money that the teaching team can then use in anyway they want: field trips, speakers, books, etc. Buy Gift Cards More Securely There have been increased reports of scams related to gift cards purchased from retail stores. Scammers are copying down the serial numbers of gift cards, or scanning the magnetic bar, then using computer software to alert them when money has been loaded on the card. Once they know the card is funded, they use it before the purchaser has a chance. Our gift cards are not available for sale in retail stores prior to being purchased by the PTO. As a result, buying your gift cards through Mariners' Loot is avoids the risk that your card might be compromised. What if I don’t see the store I want on the form? Hundreds of companies participate in the Mariner's Loot program. We have created a form that includes retailers that are in the neighborhood (and we’ve included a list of local businesses as well). If you own a business that you’d like to add, let us know. If there’s a retailer that you don’t see on our form, check out the full list here or ask the PTO. Why don’t you take credit cards? We accept cash or checks only with our order because banks charge a 2-4% fee on every card transaction. This cuts into our profits too much to make it worthwhile. Remember the goal is to make as much money for our kids as possible. If you sign up to place your order online, you can also use a debit card through the Shop With Scrip program at www.shopwithscrip.com. The enrollment code for FLPTO is F95845L46654. |
